Screen Overlay Detected -- What is it and How to Turn it Off
IntroIf you’re like me, then you might be irritated by the screen overlay detected notification that pops up on your screen every so often when you’re using your phone or tablet with any app that uses the front-facing camera. I got fed up with it popping up so much and creating annoyance as well as distraction, so here’s what I did to turn it off once and for all!
What is Screen Overlay Detected
The Screen Overlay Detected message can appear on the Samsung J7 when a third-party application or app extension is not working properly. This message appears when your phone's screen resolution is being used by an app that doesn't have permission to do so. In order to turn off Screen Overlay Detected, you'll need to close all apps that are running in the background.
How do I turn it off?
To turn off the Screen Overlay Detected warning, go to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Google Play Store. Once you are in the Google Play Store app, press MENU and then select Settings from the drop-down menu. In this new screen, you will find a list of options including Allow Installation of apps from unknown sources. If this option is turned on, you need to toggle it off before proceeding. If not, tap on Allow installation of apps from unknown sources and follow the prompts on the screen until the box changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).
Why did I get this message?
The message Screen overlay detected comes up when you are using your phone in a way that may damage the screen or cause the touchscreen to malfunction. This could be because you're too close to the screen, the brightness is too high, or maybe because of something like an app that runs in the background. To turn off this message, go into Settings > Display > Screen overlay detected > OK.
