1) Download and Install VLC
VLC is an open-source, cross-platform media player that can play almost any media format you throw at it. It can also be used to rip DVDs on your Mac. To start, download and install VLC onto your computer. Once installed, insert the DVD into your disc drive or mount the ISO file from where you downloaded it from online. Next click Play on VLC and then choose Rip/Save title in the bottom left corner of the screen. Now enter a file name for the movie and save location and then click Convert/Save in order to finish ripping.
2) Insert the DVD into Your Mac
Insert your DVD into the drive and wait for it to load. Right-click on the icon that appears, then select Show Package Contents. Double-click the Contents folder in the window that pops up, then double-click DVD Folder. Drag all of the files from inside this folder into a new folder on your desktop.
3) Use VLC to Rip the DVD
1. Open up your VLC app and hit play.
2. In the toolbar at the top, click Media in the left-hand column and then select Convert/Save.
3. In the pop-up window, change the output format to H264 Video (*mp4) if you want it for an iPhone or other iOS device (or choose any other format).
